Documentary Review on Genetic Roulette

I mentioned in the past how much my husband and I enjoy watching documentaries.

Today, I’ve got a Documentary Review on Genetic Roulette, a film by Jeffery M. Smith – Narrated by Liza Oz (Yes! Dr. Oz’s wife). Thanks to Mamavation I was able to access a special online viewing.

Do you know what a GMO is? GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organism. What does that have to do with you? Everything. Back in the 90’s a new breed of seed was born and farmers began using them for crops. Corn being the main of the crops that are genetically modified- (Hi! Corn is in just about everything now!).  Jeffery M. Smith, also founder of the  Institute for Responsible Technology; has written many books regarding this one subject. I know what you are wondering, what is Genetic Roulette about?

Documentary Review on Genetic Roulette

Genetic Roulette is a documentary, that explains in really good detail the structure of how GM food has become the norm in our food supply over the years and how it’s affecting us.  I was really amazed how GMO’s  gained so much momentum and kind of spread like “a weed,” before people started making connections- or getting sick. That’s right, the United States has been getting sicker since the mid-nineties.  Chronic illness is on the rise at epidemic rates and this movie connects it to foods that are genetically modified.  It’s very interesting and disturbing at the same time.

If you are interested in learning about GMO’s and what they are, you must watch this movie.  GMO’s were brought to my attention by Leah Segedie, of Mamavation.  I had no idea what was in our food, I had no idea that food could be messed with in this manner. (I was living under a rock..evidently.) Since learning more about GMO’s and talking to my friends and family, I have actually seen several others documentaries that go into the same type of studies as Genetic Roulette. This documentary just solidified my decision to get out all of the processed food in our home.  In some  of the reviews that I have read about the movie, they claim it was it’s one-sided and bias. I say- you go ahead and chomp on that GM food and get back to me in a decade or so..

If you know me personally I’m not a crunchy type mom per-say, but after seeing this documentary I feel that it’s imperative that we educate ourselves and those around us so that changes can be made and we consume healthy food at any income bracket.

I hope that by reading my post today, you learned something new. If you can I urge you to watch this movie. It will open your eyes to the reality, that others are already hard at work- trying to change.  This documentary isn’t really a 2 thumbs down or a 2 thumbs up- it’s just a movie everyone should watch and make their own decision about. It’s obvious that I’m against GMO’s in our food, all I can do is provide information to help with your decision.

Before you read this post did you know what a GMO was?
