It’s just past midnight and we are home. It’s “officially” Black Friday and the lines of people at stores are probably still going strong. It seems as though the economy is getting some serious stimulation in Augusta at least. Crazy right? So my sister and I didn’t do a very good job of planning our Black Friday err Thursday shopping experience. At this point why is it even called Black Friday right?!
Here’s how it went down. I went to bed at 3am Thursday and woke up at 9am to get the Thanksgiving feast going. I actually set my alarm to go off at 7am but I was sleepy.. 3am bedtime didn’t jive to well with 7am. I was a couple hours behind schedule and still needed to make a couple things so we ended up having our Thanksgiving at 2pm. It worked out well.
For some reason I recall seeing an ad for Old Navy, opening at 4pm. As I mentioned above my Black Friday game was WAY off point this year. So I tell my sister, it’s about ten til 4, “Let’s get dressed and head out to Old Navy. I think they open at 4pm.” So we get ready and head out. We get there after 4 and on the way there we pass a couple strip malls where we can see lines of people waiting for Kohl’s and Office Max to open. We started to get excited. I love going out on Black Friday. We’ve been going with our mom for a long time, you know when it actually started on Friday morning. We get to Old Navy and I see the sign that says, “Open on Thanksgiving Day at 9am.” I was like.. “Oh my gosh they’ve been open since 9am this morning!!!” There was still a steady crowd in there but I couldn’t believe they had been open all day like that. When we were checking out my sister asked our sales associate if she had gotten to have Thanksgiving and she said no. That made us really sad. We are hoping that their management had a special meal for them in the backroom.
Everything in the store was 50% off except the already reduced sale items. Did we get some good deals? Yes, we did. But it just sucked to hear that they had been open all dang day and continue to be open until tomorrow.. yes.. there’s an overnight shift at Old Navy last night. Nuts!!
Off we went to Target. Again I had no idea what time they opened, I think someone mentioned 6pm was the hour for Target. It was open and we didn’t see an ad so we weren’t sure what was on sale. When we walked into the store we saw carts loaded with 50 inch televisions. Luckily neither of us were in search of a television, but we did pick up some great deals. We’d been wanting a fire pit and I recently found that our DVD player in the living room isn’t working.. Picked up one of those too. Luckily we weren’t after any big ticket items but was had a great time getting out together.
We made it home by 9pm because of the insane line at Target, but that was pretty much the extent of our Black Friday shopping experience. As I sit here writing this at 1:22 am I know the lines are probably getting set up for stores opening up at dawn. Will I be headed out again later? Most likely not. I just wasn’t prepared this year, maybe next year I will at least buy the paper or do some research online prior to. I actually prefer to have the ads in hand.. I’m old school what can I say!
The rest of the weekend we plan on just enjoying our company and spending time together. I hope that you will have the chance to do the same with your family!
