There’s just something about an animated film of some of the most dangerous creatures on earth that makes me go AWWWW. The newest animated feature film Back to the Outback now streaming on Netflix and it is so cute! Thanks to Netflix Family for inviting me to join in on the press events for this beautiful love letter to Australia that stars amazing Aussie talent. Your family is going to LOVE Back to the Outback.
What I Loved
First off, let’s talk about Australia. Besides Crocodile Dundee, in terms of films- are there any others that are well known? No, I don’t think so. Back to the Outback is going to introduce Australia to children and families of all ages. Bravo to Directors Clare Knight and Harry Cripps! The story written by Gregory Lessans, was beautifully transformed into a full-length animated feature with amazing characters, scenes, and music, that bring together a film that does Australia right. One of the things we hear about most is how “everything can kill you in Australia.” While that might be true, these creatures are given a voice and such feeling from the fabulous actors that lent their beautiful Australian voices to each of them. And just like Latinos comes in all colors and shapes, so do Aussies, and they are represented in the film.

What I Didn’t Like
Honestly- I don’t think there was anything I didn’t like about the film. I’ve watched it three times already and it’s held my attention each time. It’s a great film with lots of action and amazing creatures from Australia.
Is the Film Kid Friendly?
I’m going to say Absolutely! I would take into consideration if your child is scared of spiders, scorpions, and snakes- but the animation is so beautiful, they won’t be able to take their eyes off the screen. There are some action scenes that can be scary, but reassure your kiddos that this is an animated film and no one was hurt. wink wink.

About The Film
Tired of being locked in a reptile house where humans gawk at them like they’re monsters, a ragtag group of Australia’s deadliest creatures plot a daring escape from their zoo to the Outback, a place where they’ll fit in without being judged for their scales and fangs. Leading the group is Maddie (Isla Fisher), a poisonous snake with a heart of gold, who bands together with a self-assured Thorny Devil lizard Zoe (Miranda Tapsell), a lovelorn hairy spider Frank (Guy Pearce), and a sensitive scorpion Nigel (Angus Imrie). But when their nemesis — Pretty Boy (Tim Minchin), a cute but obnoxious koala — unexpectedly joins their escape, Maddie and the gang have no choice but to take him with them. So begins a hair-raising and hilarious road trip across Australia, as they are pursued by a zookeeper Chaz (Eric Bana) and his adventure-seeking mini-me (Diesel La Torraca). Directed by Clare Knight and Harry Cripps, and also featuring the voices of Rachel House, Keith Urban, Celeste Barber, Wayne Knight, Lachlan Power, and Jacki Weaver, BACK TO THE OUTBACK is an animated adventure that proves just because something’s different, doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful.
