Cinco de Mayo in San Angelo
Hi Everyone! How’s your weekend so far? Our started off with a bang on Friday! We attended the Cinco de Mayo in San Angelo, it started on Friday and ended yesterday. The weather was nice and crisp so we made it a point to get out..
I love being back in Texas again! I’m so glad to be able to teach the boys about our heritage by attending events like the Cinco event last night. Our traditions, culture and of course the food! I grew up attending Las Fiestas Patrias at home and participated a few times. At the event the Ballet Azteca of San Angelo, featured dance styles from Northern Mexico. It was really beautiful to see all little girls dressed in their ranchero style dresses and their long braids.
THE MUSIC
Then the mariachis came on. I love Mariachi music! The mariachis featured were Alma Mexicana. They sang a few of my favorites; Tragos Amargos, Paloma Negra, De Colores, Mexico Lindo y Querido, and a few others.
I actually I dressed Aramis up as a Mariachi for Halloween one year. He looked adorable! My little Jorge Negrete! He’d never actually seen mariachis in person before last night, so it was a real treat for him. I think he and Ezra really enjoyed the music too. I know I did! We actually had mariachis at our wedding reception. My grandmother wanted mariachi’s at our wedding, we didn’t so we compromised and they played at the reception. Just a little about our wedding.. lol Anyways- I got lost there for a second. I’m back on track now-
THE FOOD
We had dinner before, even though I told my husband there would be food there.. Men. We couldn’t be there and not have an elote.. so we did! There was an amazing array of food there. Tacos, elotes, gorditas, raspas, aguas frescas and a whole lot more carnie food. There was also a carnival there as well.
If you follow me on Instagram you saw a few more pictures from the event. It was a lot of fun, we had a great time. I’m so glad to be here in this community and look forward to attending more events like this.

Love this!!!! Your son is so cute!!! And my Mother actually sang with the Mariachi at our wedding! Best memory ever. So awesome to be able to teach our children our culture… Love it.

No way Connie!! Yeah that would have been so memorable and I probably would have cried my eyes out (I’m a huge cryer). I think it’s super important to share our traditions with our kids. We are American but we all came from different places- what makes America great. 🙂 IMHO
