I’ve been keeping a secret from you! One of my guilty pleasures is owning cookbooks! I have a shelf full in my kitchen cabinet and recipes in binders.. you get the picture! I’m very excited to share the newest addition to my collection! I received the cookbook for review however, all opinions listed are my very own.
Prep-Ahead Meals From Scratch by Alea Milham is a book I find myself looking thru a lot lately. The title says it all, does it not?! Prep-Ahead Meals From Scratch sounds like a WINNER to me! I learned about batch cooking and didn’t realize I was kind of already doing it! The breakdown is really genius and I love how she did it. If you are looking for a simplied way of cooking Alea can show you the way via her awesome cookbook.
One thing I didn’t know about Alea was that she too is a Military spouse. As soon as I opened the book her dedication was to:
“Dedicated to military spouses who are busy holding it all together on the home front.”
I absolutely love her dedication. I could be partial, but I’m looking forward to using her cooking techniques more often and when the hubs is out of town so I don’t have to cook as much! Let’s be real, we don’t really cook much with the spouses don’t come home right? The kids and I are fed, but it’s not too complicated. Using Alea’s cookbook it’s going to be even better for prepping and having delicious meals in no time.
I actually made one of the recipes as soon as I got the book! I was so excited to try everything this one really stuck out to me because we are lovers of chicken and rice..
Beautiful right? Well I’m also excited to give you a glimpse of another one of her easy and delicious recipes! And it’s a great spin on an oldie! Check out another one of Alea’s awesome recipes:
Southwestern Sloppy Joes
You can find this recipe on pages 82 & 83 of the book
With each recipe you will get a “Prep-Ahead Tip” that rocks because it will save you time and tell you how long you’ll have to freeze, refrigerate and/or enjoy the dish. I really enjoyed reading this cookbook. I’ll be referencing it soon because I want to batch cook and prep some of the meals for when the kids will be here for Spring Break and Summer. I love that this book has me and you in mind, busy parents that still enjoy cooking and want to have a delicious meal to share with the family.

My best tip is to get the kids involved in the planning. Letting them pick a favorite fruit or veg, or any food they are curious about makes meal planning fun, and gets them used to taking an active role in cooking and nutrition!
