One of the questions I get asked often is, “Why do you blog?” Sometimes I have one answer and other times I have many. Since it’s the beginning of a new year and we just completed a new move I’m sharing with you:
I don’t have a college degree. It’s something I didn’t feel I really needed, but as I get older I realize my lackadaisical interest in going to school was just me not knowing what I truly wanted to do. Do I know now? I think so. Journalism and/or Public Relations, are calling my name. Hence my first reason for blogging. I love to write. When I was younger I started writing a screen play. Crazy right? I get to exercise my brain and be creative. Sure I share a lot of different topics, but it’s because I enjoy writing to inform. That’s the journalist in me and with blogging I can share it all with you! Will I ever get my degree? That I cannot answer right now. I’d like to think that eventually I will do it.
Sharing a bit of our life. We are from a small town in eastern Texas. Not that I’m being like Aladin you know.. “I can show you the world” and all.. but I love being able to share what we are up to. Some family and friends read up on the blog and I love them for it. Like any other blog it’s a journal of what we are up to, what we love, places we’ve seen etc. If you’re making plans for a trip you can get ideas of fun activities that you can plan to do on your own or with your family when you get out.
I make money. I’m not making hundreds of thousands, but I’m yes I’m making money. One of the first goals when I started Candypolooza was to try to make money. If you read my About Me, I started in the blogging world as a content creator for a sweepstakes website. I saw that she made money while staying at home and I wanted to do it too. I never considered myself an entrepreneur but now.. I am a Professional Blogger. That’s crazy for me to write out. Doing other various things online we get to enjoy the cushion of an additional salary in our home. I guess you could say I provide the fun money and it works so well for our family. I truly count my blessings daily
Overall I truly love blogging. It’s been an excellent way to keep my creativity going and I’m making amazing memories with my family. Not only is it trips we’ve been on it’s the fact that I’ll be able to look back in a few years and see how much my boys have grown and all the fun we’ve had. I see that already, E was still a baby when I started Candypolooza. I’ve seen myself learn new things, things that I wouldn’t have ever thought to learn had it not been for blogging. I am a positive person and I love to be happy. Blogging a positive place for me, that my friends is why I blog.

I love that you started blogging. You have a great voice not to mention a pretty cool personality…
I started blogging to share creative ideas and helpful Mommy tips and it has grown into a profession that makes me happy, even though I have to work hard. I am blessed to have a husband to support my drive to do what I love and close friends to drive me. 🙂
Thank you for sharing with us.
Candy says
Thank you Anjanette! I’m very fortunate to have “met” you and become such wonderful friends. You are super creative, I love reading about your family fun and your wonderful recipes. You are definitely a mentor for me.

I think everyone should have some outlet to share their likes, concerns, feelings. You just happen to have made a great success of it. I started to share the food I loved, then I got into entering giveaways… and eventually found my own voice as I started my family. Now it is 7 years later and I still love it every day!
Candy says
I love it Andrea!! You are so right. This is a wonderful outlet. Giveaways.. aren’t they the best?! LOL
Christie says
Doing something you love and making a living from it is so commendable! Glad you wrote this down to remember!
Dawn says
I blog because I love to share my ideas with the world, and it’s also a nice way to work from home. I don’t think those two have to be exclusive. Blogging is my dream job. I get to see and do all sorts of things, and it never gets boring!
Candy says
I agree Dawn! Never boring.
Tiffany (A Mom's Take) says
I enjoyed reading your post. I have a blog, a few of them actually. I used to blog about my family, now I just blog to pay the bills, and I miss blogging just to blog and keep an online journal of my family and my life.
Candy says
Throw some personal posts in there every once in awhile Tiffany. 🙂

I started a blog much for the reason you did, to help be informed and inform other people. I love writing as well, I’ve always wanted to publish and share my name with the world. See my name in print, and this is one step closer to that. I am going to check out your friend’s post as well, to learn more on how I can make my own blog more successful.
Candy says
That would be amazing Mary and one day it will happen!! 🙂
Shop with Me Mama (Kim) says
Yes, I have a blog. Been blogging since 2008, so crazy to think about that! It was funny when I read that you make the ‘fun money’ because that is what we call the money I make from blogging! It is the money that allows us to travel and do fun things!
Candy says
Right!! It rocks Kim!!
Debbie Denny says
I think this is a great reason to blog. Make a little money, share some stuff and have some fun.
Candy says
Totally Debbie!! I love it!

Great post. I started blogging to escape the walls of my full-tme job. It eventually led me into a life I could have never dreamed of for myself. Working from home AND traveling. I really do lead an unconventional yet charming life. The pay hasn’t always been great but the perks are amazing.
Wishing you continued success in doing what you love!
Candy says
I agree Deb!! Thank you and same to you!! 🙂

Candy says
And there’s nothing wrong with hodge podge either! Sometimes that how I feel. I just want to share it all! 🙂

Thanks Tracey! I love reading your blog too!

I think like most, it started as a hobby. Maybe a way to share my ideas, thoughts and meet like minded people. And now, like you, it’s nice having the added income as a bonus!
Candy says
Right!! Love that bonus fun money! LOL
Stacie says

I have been blogging for over 20 years. Think back to the days of TriPod and GeoCities. Back then blogs were flashy and blinky. I blog because without it, I go crazy. Blogging is another form of journaling for me. I’m a writer by nature; it’s what I really wanted to do in life despite all my degrees and classes in accounting, business and marketing. Writing is my love. I blog for my own sanity.
Candy says
I love that Chrystal!
Ashley (@IrishRed02) says
I started blogging as a way to reconnect to the woman I was before the kids. I have always enjoyed writing and I also wanted to make extra money if possible. It has grown and I really enjoy what I do. 🙂
Rosey says
I think a PR job would be so fun!! I know there’s a ton of hard work involved, but yeah…there’s a lot of fun involved too. 🙂
Candy says
To play hard you gotta work hard right Rosey! 🙂 I’m down for working hard!

All great reasons! There’s nothing better than being about to do what you love, while staying home with the little ones you love at the same time!

Hey blogger friend! I blog because it’s been my calling to write all my life. Before blogging was cool I was a blogger on blogspot.com back in 2006…I didnt even think you could make money blogging I just did it from my heart and enjoyed READING other blogs. I think some people do blog for the wrong reason and they arent even passionate about it – it just sounds cool. Its cool but its my lifestyle and I want to be a FULL-TIME professional blogger as my career (I am halfway there). I blog because its my calling and my career path! Thanks for the blogpost!
Candy says
Rock on Kiwi! I had two on blogspot but they were private. It was more an outlet for my frustrations. Being a blogger is a ton of fun! We are super lucky to love and enjoy what we do 🙂
Ann BAcciaglia says
I started my blog as a form of therapy after my husband died. My therapist told me that I should journal so I decided to do an online journal.

Camesha says
I started blogging as a way to connect with other moms. I was one of the first of my friends to have children and needed a community that understood where I was in life.
Candy says
That’s a great reason Camesha! We had children later than most of our friends so it definitely helps. 🙂
Kelley says
