When we think of our kids’ education, we should be thinking beyond which subjects they are passing today. We should be asking ourselves, “What will they do tomorrow with what they learn today?”
The careers of today and tomorrow are increasingly focused in STEM fields – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM Careers in the Military
While it’s true that STEM careers everywhere will only continue to increase, as a military family, we want to recognize the growing STEM careers in the military, in particular, in the Army.
Science – If you like a challenge in science, you could serve in areas of medical, clinical, or environmental science in the Army. Career and job positions vary from a Medical Service Corps Officer, who commands the medical service corps that treat and help the soldiers and their families in a variety of areas, to a Petroleum Laboratory Specialist, who is primarily responsible for supervising or conducting laboratory tests on petroleum, oil, and lubricant products.
Technology – The Army has a variety of stimulating technology jobs that allow you to train on high-tech equipment unavailable in most civilian jobs. Cyber Operations Specialist, Cryptologic Linguist, Multimedia Illustrator, and Watercraft Operator are a few of the technology jobs available in the Army.
Engineering – The Army Corps of Engineers is the world’s largest public engineering, design, and construction management agency. Engineering jobs in the Army consist of Combat Engineer, Horizontal Construction Engineer, and Watercraft Engineer.
Mathematics – Mathematics jobs in the Army range from clerical to supervisory positions and are both challenging and rewarding. You could make a career as a Military Intelligence Officer, who is responsible for all collected intelligence during Army missions. Enlisted jobs include Financial Management Technician, Geospatial Engineer, Human Intelligence Collector, and Ammunition Stock Control and Accounting Specialist.
