We are all on a journey in this life. I never stop to wonder “what if”, because honestly I think my imagination would really run away. In Disney Pixar The Good Dinosaur, the question is asked and we see what it would have been like had the asteroid missed Earth. The evolution of the dinosaurs is an incredible thought and the main characters Arlo, a young apatosaurus and his unlikely friend and ally Spot an orphaned cave boy. We follow Arlo and Spot as they journey back home and I come to the realization that Arlo could be me! or my boys, or you! You get the idea right? With our current lifestyle you will understand why I connected with this movie. Without giving away the whole movie I tell you that Disney Pixar The Good Dinosaur will bring you joy and a lot of hope. When I attended the press event in November I knew this The Good Dinosaur movie would be special to me and to my boys because of the type of life that we live. I kind of see Arlo as Aramis and Ezra as Spot as a matter of fact. How will they evolve from this lifestyle? All we can do is have hope that our traditions and our cultura also play a part and shape the people they become. When we first moved away with the military my mamá (actually my grandma but we call her mamá) told us “que somos pajareros” (we’re like birds). Because we move around so much. I used to get offended.. lol but now I kind of like it. I guess por que ya estoy impuesta (because I’m used to it) and it is true, when the Army says it’s time, we get packed up and go to the next place. Of course it won’t always be like this but for now, I’m ok with it.
I have to admit though the hubs and I often talk about the effect it will have on our niños. We are hoping that it’s positive and that they are more well rounded and appreciate their father’s sacrifice to our country. My two loves are living a different life that I ever expected them to live. Ten years into being an Army family, as they get older and we keep moving it will be harder for them to say good-bye to the friends they make and start over again wherever it is we end up next for now. I’m so proud to be their mom, I know they are going to do great things.
