Dads Are The Best

June 15, 2022 By Candy

Dads are the best. This Father’s Day I am missing my dad. We last saw our families in Texas for Christmas. Oh my goodness, it’s been forever. I don’t think I’d really thought about how long it’s been. We normally go home during the summer, but since I’m finishing up college, there was no way to make it work. I have to focus, read and write a lot and let’s be real when I’m home- I can’t do that. After talking with the hubs, we opted to not go home while I’m working on these last four classes. This has been a long road, that will be a blog post to come in a few weeks. So back to dad and celebrating Father’s Day. Make sure to leave me a comment telling me one of your favorite memories with your dad.

Memories

Let’s talk memories with your dad. What’s your favorite Father’s Day memory of your dad?  I have awesome memories of the silly things my dad would do to make us laugh as kids. He is still pretty funny and as we’ve grown it seems corny! But I wouldn’t have it any other way. His sayings and his jokes are things we will talk about for years to come. I think that I have my dad’s sense of humor and patience. Two wonderful qualities if I do say so myself. I’m grateful that my dad is still with us so the boys can experience and enjoy all things Bello and Bella.
This one memory that comes to me is a funny one. Don’t tell him I told you this okay. He used to do this thing where he would put on his tube socks (yes, he wore tube socks for the longest time) and he would not pull them on all the way, so there was a big part of the sock just hanging off the front of his foot. He would tell us, “Did you know that Michael Jackson invented the moonwalk, well I invented the front walk” and he would do a walk similar to the moonwalk but forward-moving. It was hilarious and we would just laugh and laugh. I think he even did it when I was a teenager and I would just shake my head. I’m going to have to remind him about it so he can show the boys his moves.

Experiences

One of the cool things that my parents did for us girls, was that they took us places. We were always at a sporting event, RenFest, circus, or driving somewhere. We didn’t travel far or get to fly anywhere but the experiences we had are some we still talk about. I remember one time and honestly, I feel like this experience stayed with me and traumatized me. Those are the things that kids enjoy and remember. We do this with our kids so that they remember all the fun they had with us.
Here’s that experience that traumatized me. We would go to south Texas and cross into Mexico to a town called Progresso. I don’t recall if it was there that we were coming back from, this one specific time but our vehicle began to overheat while we were waiting to cross the bridge back into the United States. I can see still it very vividly. My little sister Kari was crying, we were all hot because the vehicle was turned off and it was summer, so it was very hot. I recall someone being kind enough to bring us water to put into the motor or radiator, I don’t know about cars. I know we made it home safely from that trip, but I recall feeling nervous about having car issues, and to be honest, still do. I didn’t say, all the experiences were good! But I’m telling you, my vehicle cannot have issues like this- but I will lose it.
