Veterans Day is such a special day for our family. We honor my husband and my sister, and all that serve honorably in the military. Being a part of the military community we have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know so many people that have selflessly given to our country. Celebrating veterans on Veteran’s Day is awesome but we are saluting our veterans today and always.
Goodfellow AFB
A few years ago while we were stationed in west Texas at Goodfellow AFB, I was able to arrange for our scout troop, to be a part of the local Veterans Day parade in San Angelo. We joined the VFW Post 1815’s float and had a great time. The post Commander was very welcoming and was thankful that we called to join them. This was Aramis’ first parade experience and he loved it. I was so proud of him to see all of the wonderful Veteran organizations in San Angelo and all the fellow Scout Troops as well.
I planned on walking along with the float and I’m kind of glad I didn’t. Here’s why: I am a super emotional person. I cry really easy. You don’t know how many times I had to bite my tongue to keep myself from crying seeing all of the Veterans of wars past. At one point during the parade I happened to look back at the Commander, he was standing alongside an empty chair marked for the POW/MIA soldiers. There was an older gentleman Veteran wearing his garrison hat and the Commander looked at him and saluted. There were a few other former servicemen that were standing at attention as the American flag went by. Their selflessness and honor they feel to this day were amazing. Those were some of my favorite moments during the parade.
I got to speak to a Vietnam vet for a bit. He told me about some of his patches on his vest he was wearing. It was awesome. He was a “River Rat”, was in the Navy and served in Vietnam. Another veteran we saw, I didn’t get to speak with him he was so quiet and sweet. I had to get his picture with Aramis and his friend Preston. I thanked him for his service and told him, “God Bless You.” Honestly, I wanted to just hug him. He was very kind and obliged by my picture request. I didn’t even get his name, he was walking alone and I almost asked him if he needed a ride home. I almost abducted a US Veteran. LOL, I’m kidding I would have taken him to his home! I have never asked an older Veteran about their tours of duty. Unless they offer information I feel that if they are ready to talk about it then they will. Only God knows what they have seen and been through. I pray for peace for them daily.
Isn’t that the best picture?!
Aramis is all about the Scouts salute. I love it!
We say Thank You to those that have and are currently serving our great nation. I love being a Military spouse and would follow my soldier to the ends of the world if that’s where the Army sends us.
God Bless our United States of America and all who serve!
Question:
Who are you honoring on Veterans Day?
And yes, I totally cried my eyes out as I typed this post up.
Sharing pictures of our soldiers! We love them so much and are filled with pride for their service and commitment to our country.

As a vet, I personally thank you for this – and send a big Thanks to those in your family who are serving. For families who have loved ones serving,t hey are serving, too…giving up their loved ones to ensure freedom is a blessing many forget.
