Most of the posts on this blog talk about my family, my boys or places we’ve been. I don’t really get into much of me, specifically. This post is about taking care of me. I’m sharing about supplements that I’m currently taking and why.
Recently I had some blood work done. I like to get my blood work done at least twice a year, sometimes I forget and go without but I try to do twice a year. I had not had it done in a while so I got my blood work done. Well it came back and I am deficient on Vitamin D and possibly on Iron. I need to go back and get some more blood work done for them to check my iron. I’ve yet to do it, I know.. I need to go. I plan on going soon. So I’m deficient on Vitamin D. My doctor asked me what vitamins/supplements I was currently taking. I normally take a multivitamin. I used to only take the hard vitamins and when the gummies came out, I decided to give them a try. So I take two gummy multivitamins, three Vitamin D-3 and two fish oil pills. One thing I will tell you is to make sure you take the fish oil supplements at night. I made the mistake of taking the fish oil in the morning and was burping up fish for a few hours. It was terrible. But all in the name of health right?
Vitamin D
Vitamin D deficiency can happen to anyone. The easiest way for people to get their vitamin d is to be outside. Liquid sunshine can boost the Vitamin D in your body.
Fish Oil
Fish Oil is recommended for overall health and cardiovascular health. There are a lot of good fats that come from eating fish and if you don’t consume fish often this is a great alternative.
Daily MultiVitamin
Remember the days when you were little and your parents gave you a daily vitamin in the shape of a cartoon character? Even as an adult we need those multivitamins in our life. They may not be as fun as those were, but now there gummy versions. Oh yeah!
*Please note, I take these vitamins/supplements on the recommendation of my doctor. Don’t take my supplement regime as one that will work for you. We are all different and require different supplements.*

Yes I remember taking Flintstone Vitamins! I know I need to do better taking supplements, but now they do have adult gummy supplements so I need to consider taking them!

Yes – I take Women’s Ultra Mega Energy & Metabolism daily vitamin pack program from GNC. Makes taking vitamins easy for me 1/2 in AM and 1/2 in PM.

I actually haven;t taken a vitamin in a long time. I should probably start, huh?

Great advice on not taking supplements without the advice of a doctor. To many people walk in and grab something off the shelves that can potentially hurt them if mixed with other meds. I’m careful about that.
Carly from The Puzzled Palate says
I am really bad about buying supplements and then forgetting to take them! I have really bad skin- I need to load up on omega-3 and vitamin E!

It’s so important to supplement our diets, especially for women. Vitamin D is great for osteoporosis, and it’s been shown to decrease the chance of breast cancer.

I take a multivitamin every day. Occasionally I’ll take a pro biotic, but not regularly.
April @ Everyday Fitness and Nutrition says
I take magnesium a few times a week but other than that, I get my vitamins from food. It’s very important to research the supplements you use as some are a waste of money and won’t do anything for you.
Janel (A Mom's Take) says
I’m pregnant, so I take pre-natal vitamins, but normally I just take a daily vitamin. It’s nice to know you’re doing what you can to take care of yourself.

I have just recently started taking probiotics. 🙂 I am really liking them and can tell a difference in the way I feel. I should probably take a multi-vitamin.
Jenn @TheRebelChick says
I take a ton of supplements on a daily basis. Aside from a daily multivitamin, I take a daily Vitamin C, b-complex, Biotin, calcium chews and I take melatonin when I remember to buy some. LOL! I sometimes take cinnamon and ginger/tumeric when I am trying to exercise because it supposedly increases your metabolism.
Candy says
Grate some fresh ginger in your smoothies Jenn! I try to add cinnamon to my coffee too! I’ll do just about anything for my metabolism! LOL

I’m a supplement user. I switch between the gummies and a regular pill. I’ll have to check them out.
Brandy says
That is a lot of supplements. I need to look further into a vitamin D type one, with Winter on it’s way and shorter days I will start to feel off and have moods. I need sunlight or else I am totally off my rocker most days …. a grow light (like a Happy Light it’s called) would be something beneficial for anyone that has Vitamin D deficiencies as well! Glad you are taking care of you!
Camesha says
I used to be so much better about taking my vitamins. I need to get on it.
Krystal's Kitsch says
I just started daily vitamins again. I always forget to take them!
Liz Mays says
I’m not very consistent with taking my vitamins. I definitely need to get back on board with that.
Rosey says
Your comment at the end about everyone needing different supplements is a good one. I cannot remember if my husband talked to his dr. about the ones he takes (he’s got a mini pharmacy going on in the bathroom) but I’m going to ask him. His physical is next week, so it’s perfect timing.
Candy says
Yes, Rosey it’s so important. And you never know what interferes with each other too!
Amanda Mushro says
So glad you are taking care of YOU! We need to remember that we need some TLC and extra help like supplements to help us feel our best!

I need to be better about remembering my supplements, I know when I take my vitamin D consistently my energy level is much better!

I need to start taking my vitamins more consistently. I buy them and then forget to take them. I need to take Vitamin D in the winter.

Women don’t realize just how important vitamins are. We lack so much from our diets these days that a good stash of vitamins is a must! Good for you!!

It’s so important to take care of your self so that you can take care of others. I also take supplements to help out!
