I purchased my first car when I turned 17, the deal was I would pay the note and my parents would pay my car insurance. I thought that was a sweet deal for a junior in high school. Insurance has always been a concern of mine; health and car insurance. What can I say, I was a little different. LOL As a new driver with a vehicle in 1997, my parents reminded me to be a safe driver. If I were to get any kind of citation, our insurance would go up and they would not be able to afford it. Knowing it would go up was always on my mind. I did my very best to drive responsibly and avoid any kind of issues that would make my insurance go up.
Me and the Dodge Neon did pretty good. Never got a speeding ticket or a warning. I was truly a safe and defensive driver.
Fast forward to the year 2000, and my husband and I got our own policy. That’s when things got real. When we got our first policy, we went with the family Insurance agent. He “shopped” around for us and got us the “best” deal. It would have been ideal for us to have the option of Comparing Auto Insurance Rates with AutoInsurance.com. That way we would have learned the “ins and outs” of the policy.
I always went with a four-door vehicle because I always understood that the policy is cheaper in a sedan versus a two door sports car. Maybe one day you’ll see me zipping around in a fast car. But back then it was a four door vehicle or none. Now this mom is driving an SUV. What’s the first thing I considered when making this purchase? How were my car insurance rates going to change from going from a 4 door sedan to an SUV.
