Friends we are in for a treat this holiday season! Our favorite group of friends from Arendale are back for a holiday short. I was very excited to be a part of a Q & A with the directors Stevie Wermers-Skelton and Kevin Deters, producer Roy Conli, and songwriters Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson. Thanks to Disney for inviting me to attend the red carpet event and additional experiences at Disney XD and ABC, the following statements are my own. Olaf’s Frozen Adventure was a heartwarming short film celebrating the holidays with those that mean the most. Wether you’re making new family traditions or enjoying old ones, the best way to celebrate is with family and friends. Olaf’s adventure to finding family traditions for his friends will bring smile and laughter your way, so get ready!
Let’s start off with a sneak peek! Watch the trailer below!
About Olaf’s Frozen Adventure:
Olaf (voice of Josh Gad) teams up with Sven on a merry mission in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 21-minute featurette “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.” It’s the first holiday season since the gates reopened and Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) and Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel) host a celebration for all of Arendelle. When the townspeople unexpectedly leave early to enjoy their individual holiday customs, the sisters realize they have no family traditions of their own. So, Olaf sets out to comb the kingdom to bring home the best traditions and save this first Christmas for his friends. Directed by Emmy®-winning filmmakers Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton (“Prep & Landing”), produced by Oscar® winner Roy Conli (“Big Hero 6”), and featuring a screenplay by Jac Schaeffer and four original songs by Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson, “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” opens in front of Disney•Pixar’s original feature “Coco” in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2017.
The Music
The music you’ll enjoy in Olaf’s Frozen Adventure were written by Songwriters Elyssa Samsel & Kate Anderson. Anderson.. does that name sound familiar? Why it should be she’s Kristen Anderson-Lopez’s sister! Pretty cool right? And some great trivia, so keep it in your pocket! Music runs in that family! I love it!

You guys are going to LOVE the music in Olaf’s Frozen adventure. After you get home, you’ll all be humming all of the fantastic musci from Olaf and Coco. The songs are super catchy like ‘That Time of Year’ and you’ll be brought to tears (ok maybe it was just me), when you hear ‘When We’re Together.’
Fun facts from the songs:
The songwriters were asked to make the songs of Olaf’s Frozen Adventure “the next Silent Night.” It might not be ‘Silent Night’ but it’s pretty damn close! They also shared that the last song in the short took the longest to write.
When Josh Gad, the voice of Olaf, met songwriters, the first thing he said was the songs were too high. But the truth is that he masters them beautifully. Olaf lives in the high notes and Josh Gad nailed it effortlessly. The ladies were so excited to work with the amazing cast of the short.

The Making of the Short
Ever wonder how long it takes to make a movie? It took a year and a half to create Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, and the biggest challenge was keeping it a short. The directors Directors Stevie Wermers-Skelton & Kevin Deters shared with us. There is always so much more material than what is needed. The team had a great collaborative work ethic and they all challenged themselves to tell a relevant, entertaining story in 21 minutes, so cuts have to happen sometimes. For example, they told us about Mr. Jingles, a goat that was cut out of the earlier versions of the film. Too baad right? LOL
Easter Eggs
As you know Disney is all about the Easter eggs.. and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure also has some, so keep your eyes open! I will share one with you:
Big Hero 6 fans? There is a Baymax red armor glove fist in the sleigh! This is a nod to producer Roy Conli, who is an Oscar winner for Big Hero 6. There are a slew of them actually, but I’m not gonna tell you- yet! I’ll save that for another post!
OLD TRADITIONS – In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure,” Anna and Elsa realize that they have no traditions of their own—or do they?
