Celebrating a Military Homecoming with Chevrolet
I have had the pleasure of seeing a few homecomings. Never our own- but it’s so special to be a part of the special moments for others. If you’ve ever been privy to one, you know it’s an emotional occasion and there is almost never a dry eye in the room. At least you know I’m crying that’s a given! This Memorial Day we saw an awesome homecoming video on the Today Show; celebrating a Military homecoming with Chevrolet. Keep reading so you can see the awesome homecoming too! I love it when brands share these amazing moments so special in our Military community so that everyone can see the sacrifice each Service Member and family makes. Thanks to Chevy for highlighting May for with their awesome discount program, ChevySalutes.
When I worked at Tinker Elementary on MacDill Air Force Base I saw a few parents coming in to see their kids from deployment. It was awesome and I loved it. When the hubs returned from a 15 month deployment in 2009, we weren’t there. It was really sad but we were in Texas, so our homecoming didn’t happen until a month after re-deployment. It was very hard, but we all that mattered was that he was safe and home.
I love the back story to the wonderful homecoming surprise by Lt. Lowman and his family. Here it is from the Chevrolet site:
“The Lowman family’s tie to Chevrolet is one that goes far back. In fact, Corvette has always had a special meaning for Lt. Lowman, who grew up dreaming of one day owning one.
“Before I graduated high school, knowing I was joining…to serve our country, I went to my local dealership and took a picture in a brand-new 1994 Corvette,” said Lt. Lowman. “I stated at that time that ‘one day I am going to own one of these!’ ”
Lt. Lowman and his wife, Cindy, were finally able to own their very own 1992 Corvette, which they later transformed in a tribute to Chief Warrant Officer 4 Keith Yoakum, a fellow soldier who gave his life in combat.
“So why is Corvette significant, you may ask. It is because it is like the American Dream,” said Lt. Lowman. “Corvette is America’s sports car and what better car to have as a defender of America?”
Chevrolet is not only proud to honor Lt. Lowman for his service to our country, we are also proud to give back to his family members whose lives have been inspired by Chevrolet throughout the years.”
Here’s the awesome video! Such a great story!

That would be so hard not to be able to be there when your hubby got back – but you are right, having him back safe & sound it what matters!

It’s so inspiring – vets in general. There has been a lot of buzz lately about Honor Flight. We have them fairly regularly from our local airport with the most recent being last night. I want to go to the airport to welcome home these vets and use it as an opportunity to teach my girls about why we have the freedoms we do.
