How To Stay Close to Your Friends As You Age

October 24, 2019 By Candy

One of the worst, yet easiest things to do as you age is drifting away from your friends. When life gets in the way, it’s all too easy to leave those friendships a little too long and end up feeling alone. People get married, have kids, and begin busy lives all their own, so of course, it’s easy to lose touch. However, you can’t let that happen if you want a full and rich life complete with a huge support network of people that matter to you. Sharing some insight on how to stay close to your friends as you age.

Set Up A Regular Meeting Or Event

Agree to set up a regular meeting or event that is doable for you all. It’s probably a good idea to avoid making it once a week, as life does happen and this will likely be too frequent for everybody. Try to make it once a month minimum, and all agree on a date in advance that suits you. This could be a trip to a nice restaurant, the cinema, or even drinks at a nice bar.

Start-Up A Group Chat and Send Regular Messages

Group chats aren’t just something for young people! You can start a group chats on Facebook messenger or Whatsapp, and stay in touch with one another’s news that way. There’s nothing worse than finding out big news about a friend from somebody else, or even from a Facebook post that everybody can see! If you want your nearest and dearest to stay in the loop, a group chat is a modern way of doing it.

Have An Open Door Policy

Be the sort of friend that allows friends to turn up announced. Make sure your friends know they are welcome any time, and that your coffee or tea is always available. You’ll be much more likely to get visitors this way!

Become A Good Host

Be ready to become a great host if you’re going to see more of the people you love. Hopefully, your friends will return the favor and host at their houses too. You can click here to find the right beverage for your next get together, whether that’s a games night, book club, or arts and crafts. These ideas can be great alternatives for when you get a little older – not everybody wants to hang out in clubs, pubs, and bars.

Send A Care Package Every So Often

Maybe your friends live further away than you’d like. Why not send a care package so they know that you’re thinking of them? You can include anything you think they will appreciate here, from bath salts to candles.

Be Present With Your Friends

Don’t stay glued to your phone or distracted in your own head when you’re with your friends. Make sure you’re a good friend by staying present and in the moment with them. Be available. They’ll appreciate it!
