You know the exciting feeling you get, when you check your mailbox and what do you find? The next DVD to enjoy from your queue. How does this magic happen?! I add to my queue and don’t think about it until the DVD arrives and then I get excited. Thanks to DVDNetflix.com a Netflix company I’m sharing my trip to a DVD Netflix hub we visited in Orlando. It was very cool to see how it all comes together.
To see how it all comes together to get subscribers their DVDs is really amazing. Thousands upon thousands of DVDs in sleeves, that actually added up to over a million in the warehouse that is worked by seven (YES 7) people! If you are in the Orlando area, I have to tell you that the hub operator and staff there are highly decorated and the hub Manager has been with the Netflix company for many years. You guys are in great hands! Check out the banner below! 4 millon shipments as of January 2013- it’s five years later, I bet that number has multiplied many times over!
What used to be a manual job is now all automated. That’s right, placing each DVD in the sleeve and then the mailer was all done by hand. Crazy! The hourly rate expected to be completed was 500, there was actually a worker that could do 800! Talk about a super star! Just look at all of those DVDs!
The machines in the building are pretty awesome to watch. This machine below printed out the mailers. All of the machines are clear so if there’s a jam, they catch it pretty quickly.
Wondering what happens to DVDs that are no longer used? Every single copy of that film is destroyed. They are removed from the website and taken out of the hubs never to be processed or shipped out again. I don’t recall if he mentioned one film in particular that had been taken out of circulation.
It was incredible to visit, here’s a fun pic of myself and Victoria of SimplyTodayLife.
I’ll share some of the movies I took on Twitter and Instagram. Make sure to check them out!
Question:
Are you a DVDNetflix subscriber?
Cheers!
